The boy, Owen Howkins, has Schwartz Jampel Syndrome, an extremely rare genetic disease that results in abnormalities of skeletal muscles, as well as a variety of other symptoms. Owen’s parents explained that the boy’s muscles are often cramping, resulting in nearly constant pain.
Despite this pain, Owen is still able to talk, communicate and attempt to carry on a normal lifestyle for a 7-year-old boy.
Owen’s dog is a large animal named Haatchi. According to The Blaze, Haatchi was previously abused. The dog only has three legs.
The video, entitled simply “A Boy And His Dog,” explains Owen’s medical condition through interviews with the boy and his parents. The video also has several scenes depicting the unconditional love between Owen and Haatchi. The video was created by a group of students at the University of Hertfordshire in England, and it’s definitely worth watching.
